Not long got back from out conclusive debate about the work
of photographer Joel Peter Witkin. A
controversial photographer whom stimulated very thought provoking comments from
members of the Lindow Photographic Group.
The select members of the group considered the cultural, emotional and
visual impact of his work and arrived at an educated conclusion to the
images. To hear such well thought out
arguments was incredibly refreshing and was proof that photography is more than
just a picture. It has its roots in
historical, artistic and cultural meaning.
Is it photography? Yes, undoubtedly. Does it draw influences from other works of
art? Definitely, look at the works of Caravaggio
and Daguerre for starters.
Well done to all those who took an active part in a discussion
about what is perhaps one of the most thought provoking and challenging photographers of our time.
Want to know the conclusion?
Ah, well that can only be told by those who took an active part in this,
the first of many discussions on the works of recognised photographers.
The Lindow Photographic Group is not just about taking
pictures, it is the key to understanding and celebrating the true meaning of
photography.
